Winning Project provided solutions on

Design and Development of Multilink Spatial Hyper Redundant Robot

Runners Up projects revolved around:

  1. Design and Fabrication of Radio Controlled Surveillance Vehicles
  2. Energy Efficient Ground Water Drill

Bangalore, June 15, 2012:  QuEST Global, a diversified global engineering services company, announced the winners of the second edition of its annual national intercollegiate engineering design contest ‘QuEST Ingenium 2012’. The project presented by PSG College of Technology from Coimbatore was adjudged as the winning project unanimously and the runners up were Gogte Institute of Technology from Belgaum and Sri Siddaganga Institute of Technology from Tumkur. Noted Automobile Design and  Style Guru , Dilip Chhabria graced the occasion as Chief Guest and presented the trophies and cash prizes of Rs. 1 lakh, 50,000 and 25,000 respectively to the winning teams at a gala awards ceremony.

Commenting on the occasion Dr. Ajay Prabhu, Chief Operating Officer, QuEST Global, said “I am impressed and delighted with the quality of projects presented by the students this year. It signifies the high quality talent in India and the caliber of students to become the next generation of inventors and innovators.  When we initially launched Ingenium, we didn’t expect such an overwhelming response; we are conducting this annual event to promote core engineering and nurture young talent who will become engineering leaders of tomorrow”.

The winning team presented the project on the Design and Development of Multilink Spatial Hyper Redundant Robot.

The entries invited earlier this year were from final year B.E/B.Tech engineering students from core engineering domains spanning Aerospace & Defence, Aeroengines, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Power Generation and Production Engineering from across India. As compared to 123 entries received last year, This year saw a 69% increase in entries, up from 123 entries received last year, and from a wider cross section of colleges across India. This is testimony to the popularity of this contest and the growing interest in such contests where industry provides a platform for budding innovators/inventors to showcase their creative talent and engineering muscle.

After a stringent down selection process, 8 entries out of a total of 208 were shortlisted to travel to Bangalore and present their projects to a panel of experts.

Projects shortlisted and showcased included Multilink Spatial Hyper redundant Robot, a Vertical Takeoff and Landing Micro Aerial Vehicle with Ducted Design, a Flapping wing aerial vehicle, Energy Efficient Ground Water Drill, Design and Fabrication of Radio Controlled Surveillance Vehicles, a Tele-operated firefighting cum surveillance bot and a Photo Lighting System.

The winners were judged by an independent panel of judges who themselves are industry veterans; namely, Dr. U. Chandrasekhar, GTRE Group Director, Dr. Gopalakrishna M. Kamath, Stress Specialist, Bombardier Aerospace, Bangalore, Prof. Gopalan Jagadeesh – Department of Aerospace Engineering, IISc, Bangaloreand Mr. C.V.Venugopalan, Chief Engineer, QuEST, Bangalore.

“Today’s inventions & innovations will impact the way in which our future evolves. We had never seen such platforms where we as students, could hone our skills or even seek out opportunities to showcase our talent.” said Mr. Chhabria. “What is more laudable and inspiring is the fact that these young engineers show immense promise which I feel will be a critical cog in the wheel of tomorrow’s innovation”, he further added.

QuEST Global, as part of its University Relationship Programme, launched Ingenium, to promote engineering excellence and grow interest in core engineering as an exciting and challenging career option. The aerospace and defence sectors show much propensity to grow in the coming years; and with favourable drivers such as  India’s competitiveness in manufacturing, engineering services, offset obligations of OEMs, Government support and increased spending on defence, companies like QuEST are making efforts to encourage and hone the large talent pool this country has to offer. This is the second successful edition ofIngenium, a platform for engineering students to explore the feel of a real life hands on experience via the competitive route.

The students as part of their visit also met with the judges, as well as the engineers at QuEST (Existing and New Hires) who shared their experiences with the students. The other finalists represented Hyderabad Institute of Technology and Management, Hyderabad, Kakatiya Institute Of Technology and Science , Warangal , B.V. Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering and Technology, Hubli , Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal  and Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan college of engineering and technology, Chennai .

QuEST Global’s portfolio of services and solutions covers all aspects of the product development and engineering process such as Product Design, Product Development, Prototyping, Testing, Certification, Manufacturing Support, Product Support (sustenance, repair, documentation etc.) Product re-engineering as well as Consulting Services.

Spanning over mechanical engineering, electrical, electronics as well as embedded systems engineering of the product development process, QuEST Global’s diversified portfolio and geographic spread allows for conceptualizing, designing & developing, testing, manufacturing, certifying and supporting different kinds of products worldwide.
