The customer wanted QuEST to support them with automatic 3D non-conformance assessment of aero engine parts that facilitated to perform what-if analysis in case of following interference:
After performing the assessment the customer wanted to create detailed report stating clear pass/fail decision and cross-section on 3D parts to verify clearance/interference values.
Based on CMM output, QuEST engineers adapted concession part to actual manufacturing condition and adapt mating parts to drawing worst case limits. After this, the bolts were automatically fitted in best possible position into the holes of parts and perform clearance analysis. During this process, the engineers ensured to perform rotation, clocking and translation and re-validate bolts fitment, in case of any interference.
QuEST engineers then created detailed report with actual clearance/interference values and create section on assembly to verify these values, user manual, training & release notes before handing over the project to the customer.
QuEST helped the customer to reduce cycle time of 80% achieved for aero engine holes concession, standardize the process across multiple teams and improve quality by eliminating rejections at physical assembling of parts.
Customer also gained additional capability to perform what-if analysis in case of interference by rotating, clocking and translating the specified part.
