Manual Transmission Cooling Approach
The customer was experiencing the following issues:
Surface temperature for one of the manual transmission was higher than the target
Existing air duct was inefficient to draw enough airflow towards the area of interest
Through our analysis we identified that overheating was flagged by experimental data and the in-efficiency of design.
To rectify this, QuEST team suggested complete redesign of the engine air duct and location to achieve the best airflow and direction, modification of front skid plate. ANSA was used to create new test geometry cases. Using the software developed by the customer was utilized to analyze the changes in the temperature of values and get insight for post processing the results.
The automotive team at QuEST helped the customer to bring down surface temperature by 20 degree C with the new design and location of the air duct. Experimental data showed satisfactory results within target range and was within 10% range of computer analysis. The customer accepted the design was accepted and approved for feasible production.
