In the dynamic fields of engineering and technology, gender diversity remains a significant challenge. Recognizing this, Quest Global has taken a decisive step to bridge the gender gap through the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Scholarship program, in partnership with IEEE India. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to fostering equality in the engineering sector.
The 2020-21 All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) revealed that while women’s enrolment in higher education has increased, their representation in professional and technical courses, including engineering, remains alarmingly low. Women constitute less than 30% of students in engineering courses, underscoring the need for targeted interventions.
Our WIE Scholarship aims to change this narrative by providing comprehensive support to female students from economically weaker sections pursuing engineering. As part of our CSR initiative, the scholarship includes financial aid, mentorship, technical course, training, placement support and professional networking, ensuring a holistic support system for women in these fields. This program targets students who meet specific criteria, focusing on creating opportunities for those who need it the most.
One beneficiary, Ameesha J S from the College of Engineering, Kottarakkara, shared, “I am deeply thankful for receiving the scholarship. I utilised the money to cover the cost of college and hostel fees. As a student, balancing the demands of academics with financial responsibilities can often feel challenging. Due to the financial crisis, my parents are facing a great deal of difficulty managing the education of my brother and myself. This scholarship has been a tremendous relief for both me and my parents.”
Comprehensive support for aspiring women engineers
The WIE Scholarship program offers financial aid, ensuring sustained support throughout the students’ educational journeys. Recipients gain IEEE membership, access to technical courses, and opportunities to attend workshops, seminars, and conferences. Female students receive guidance from industry and academic professionals, helping them navigate their career paths and overcome challenges.
Thanushree M from the PES College of Engineering, Mandya, expressed her gratitude, stating, “Receiving this scholarship from IEEE funded by Quest Global has been an incredible blessing for both my family and me. As the main provider for my family of four, with my brother still in school, my father has faced numerous challenges. This financial assistance has not only eased the burden on my family but has also allowed me to concentrate on my studies without worrying constantly about money.”
The program facilitates connections with industry experts and potential employers, enhancing career prospects and professional growth. Students are enabled to explore internships and job opportunities, ensuring a smooth transition from education to employment.
Strategic implementation and impact
Our WIE Scholarship aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including quality education, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, and reduced inequalities. The scholarship program addresses barriers that prevent women from pursuing engineering careers.
Strategically implemented in key locations, including Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram, and Pune, the program reaches a significant number of students from diverse backgrounds, including those from rural areas. By supporting over 402 female students, we’re making a tangible impact on the engineering landscape. The program not only helps women achieve their educational and career goals but also contributes to broader societal benefits such as improved gender equality, economic growth, and sustainable development.
Fathimath Safa Sadic from the National Institute of Technology Karnataka highlighted the program’s impact: “Due to COVID-19, my family faced severe financial issues as my father lost his job. The IEEE WIE Scholarship awarded to me has significantly reduced our financial burden, allowing me to focus on my studies. The additional benefits such as BLP (IEEE Blended Learning Program) courses, mentorship support, and networking opportunities have enriched my educational journey.”
Commitment to excellence
At Quest Global, empowering women in engineering through our CSR initiatives is essential for fostering innovation and progress. Our Women in Engineering Scholarship focuses on supporting female students from economically weaker sections and invest in their education and professional development. By doing so, we are building a more inclusive, diverse, and dynamic engineering community. Our commitment is to create a future where these women can thrive and lead, driving positive change in the industry and beyond.
It has come to our attention that scammers have tried to mislead people by fictitiously claiming to be employees of Quest Global or posing as authorized recruitment partners. These entities are misguiding job-seekers by promising well-placed roles with our company and asking candidates to pay for a certification course with a promise of reimbursement once they have joined. Kindly note, Quest Global conducts a formal interview process in our search for extraordinary people. We would NEVER ask candidates to pay for certifications at any stage of the recruitment process.
