From an early age, I was always someone who felt a bit more nervous in new situations. However, my love for electronics and engineering was a constant source of motivation, guiding me through the sea of doubts and anxious moments. Reflecting on the past five years at Quest Global, I am eager to share how this incredible organization helped someone like me thrive in an environment I once thought was too daunting. As someone who was often overwhelmed by their nerves, the support system I found at Quest Global uplifted me through my journey to making a difference in our industry.

Venturing into the Electronics and Telecommunication engineering field was a passion-led decision rooted in my desire to make a difference, but joining the workforce tested my ability to handle my nervousness. My first role in the semiconductor industry as a physical design engineer after college was comfortable but failed to challenge me in ways I longed for. The job served as a safe haven for my anxiety, but its predictability also stunted my growth.

My leap to Quest Global was pivotal in my personal and professional transformation. The idea of leaving a familiar environment for a company known for its challenging projects and dynamic culture provoked my anxieties further. However, I found that the chance to push my limits and step beyond my comfort zone was equally exhilarating. Quest Global offered more than just a job. It provided a platform for selfdiscovery, growth, and overcoming my nerves in a supportive and understanding setting.

Here, my tendency towards nervousness was not seen as a hindrance but as a characteristic that, when properly managed, could contribute positively. My manager played a crucial role in this journey, offering constant reassurance. “Don’t be nervous; I’m here to support you” were words that I held onto tightly, serving as a reminder that it was okay to feel nervous and that within this environment, my thoughts and contributions were valued and supported, regardless of how I delivered them.

Today, as I lead a team of ten remarkable, difference-making engineers, I see reflections of my former self in some of them—those who seem overwhelmed by their nerves when faced with speaking up or taking charge. Empowered by my own experiences here, I have gained the tools I need to create a welcoming space where everyone feels supported and empowered to overcome their worries. I have discovered that effective leadership is not about being the most outspoken or seemingly confident person in the room; it’s about helping others navigate their fears and encouraging them to find their voice, a principle deeply embedded in Quest Global’s culture.

This nurturing environment has taught me that feeling nervous does not preclude one from leading or innovating; instead, it’s a part of my identity that I’ve learned to embrace and manage. My nature has enhanced my ability to listen attentively, think through my responses carefully, and approach my work with precision. Embracing this, I have cultivated a leadership style that is empathetic, thoughtful, and inclusive.

For anyone feeling apprehensive about stepping into roles that appear intimidating, remember that growth frequently lies beyond what makes us comfortable. My transformation from a nervous student to a confident team leader here is a testament to the empowering, inclusive culture that Quest Global champions—a culture that believes in the potential of every individual, helping them excel in their unique way as they make a difference in the world.
