The
International Federation for Theory of Machines and
Mechanisms (IFToMM) has announced an IFToMM award for Dr J S
Rao, Chief Technology Officer, QuEST, for his fundamental
contributions as one of the founding fathers in developing
IFToMM and MMS (Machines and Mechanisms Science), and in
promoting the Permanent Commission (PC) history during his
successful career. The federation will present the award to
Dr.Rao on April 2nd in Tianjin, China.
Dr. Rao is associated with IFToMM right from its conceptual
stage in 1960's and has been instrumental in framing its
constitution. In 1969, the constitution was adopted, and
IFToMM was founded with India as a signatory along with US,
UK, USSR, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, Australia, Poland,
and Bulgaria. Dr. Rao has been the main force behind the
Rotor Dynamics Technical Committee and Permanent Commission
on History and has chaired them for several years. He has
also been a member on IFToMM Executive Council and has
organized World Congresses in New Delhi in 1983 and Tokyo in
1986.
Dr Rao has more than 40 years of teaching experience in
various IIT's spread across India and is a visiting
professor to various institutions in United States, United
Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Australia, and Taiwan. He
is a Fellow ASME (The American Society of Mechanical
Engineers) at the National Academy of Engineering, India and
the founder of The Vibration Institute of India. He is also
a member of Structures and Dynamics Committee of the
International Gas Turbine Institute. JS has supervised 30
Ph.D. works, published over 250 research papers and 10
books. He is a recipient of the ISROMAC-7 award and Bharat
Excellence award amongst many others.
Over the years, he has worked as a consultant to several
organizations like Twyflex Couplings, Twickenham, England,
Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority, Washington, DC,
Stress Technology Inc., USA; BHEL, GTRE, ISRO,BARC in India.
Presently Dr. Rao is the Chief Technology Officer at QuEST
and works on identifying the technology needs of QuEST to
achieve technical brilliance.5 |
